alright 04:17
I lost my youth, resting on a lover’s dream. I snapped the handle, when you kicked me down in a hole, I packed Carolina and started out on my own I drank my weight in wine, just to drown out your name Tiptoeing on the breadline, chasing something to call mines Don’t know where I’m going but honey it’s gonna be alright So much faking, blinded by your own lies, time’s forsaking me, the sun she don’t shine the same, roses die on me, her thorns they crumble in my hands, nothing to lose, I started out on my own I drank my weight in wine, just to drown out your name Tiptoeing on the breadline, chasing something to call mines Don’t know where I’m going but honey it’s gonna be alright Roses die on me, roses die on me, her thorns the crumble in my hands Roses die on me, her thorns the crumble in my hands I drank my weight in wine, just to drown out your name, tiptoeing on the breadline, chasing something to call mine, don’t know where I’m going but honey it’s gonna be alright

blues to bed 03:26
Ever since I was young well I've never been quite satisfied Always searching for something but what it is well I can't decide I got a hungry feeling & it's running through my bones, I just let it take me along and I don't care where I'm goin' Tumbleweed rolls by my feet and the black clouds gather round, I step into the old white church as the rain comes falling down, Sometimes you gotta go back home and realise that you've been gone Now I think I know what it is that leads me on I need a girl like you to get in my head Coz when I see your face, you put my blues to bed Well the road is long, and you must be strong Coz when I see your face, I know that I belong So what am I supposed to do while waiting for your sign You got your problems but you know that I got mine Lets just forget about all the things that have been before You say what we got is good but you know you gotta give it more I need a girl like you to get in my head Coz when I see your face, you put my blues to bed Well the road is long, and you must be strong Coz when I see your face, I know that I belong

My black dog & me stayed up all night, climbing the walls to the ceiling and back, cold sweat on my shin, the fear creeped, the taunting of silence she never gives in Hold on, don't be afraid, the wolf at your door he is just as frail Stand your ground, carry on, water your plants and your black do will drown Tick-tock of the clock, this hound needs put down, he courts every tripe word that hides in my mind, he's slow to begin, pretends he's my friend, though enemies stay close and stick 'til the end Hold on, don't be afraid, the wolf at your door he is just as frail Stand your ground, carry on, water your plants and your black do will drown Soon you'll awake with the sun on your face, with shackles unbound, in the depths of your fears you will find there's no need to hide

from my fear 03:36
I feel I've been here before, feeling older than my year Situations come & go, I watch my youth slowly fade to the wind it's swirling 'round, just like everything, since yesterday when you said Don't you go tell me that you've lost faith in it Don't you go tell me that you've lost faith in everything Don't you go tell me that you've got nothing to say When I've seen your colours, & I know your ways I think it's high-time I found my own 2 feet, put one foot forward and the rest should fall, and not let this old beast try to tame me, my paper round was hard enough, I should know better, so brother wont you tell me what I need to get me from my fear Don't you go tell me that you've lost faith in it Don't you go tell me that you've lost faith in everything Don't you go tell me that you've got nothing to say When I've seen your colours, & I know your ways Don't you go tell me that you've lost faith in it Don't you go tell me that you've lost faith in everything Don't you go tell me that you've got nothing to say When I've seen your colours, & I know your ways Don't you go tell me that it's all been in vain Don't you go tell me that nothing's changed, it's still the same Don't you go tell me that you've got nothing to say When I've seen your colours, & I know your ways la la la la la lda dee dum

It was a sweaty old affair with lost souls and no shows, low lights, broken strings and the odd forgotten dream. You were silhouette by the stage, warming with a 'la la la', it had been a while since you stepped in front of the light. You were bold, you were fierce, you just oozed cool. Your skin-tight leathers were the perfect choice for tonight, I watched you dance that room, like a ballroom pro You could hear the rain hit the roof as the summer heat had broke the sky, the room was filling up nice as the stagehand said, "it's a sold out show tonight" There was a rumour at the bar my favourite song was on the list, you know the one with the line, 'what am I supposed to do now that I've spent all my gold on you?' It's a line, one of those sentimental lines that just rings true Though you wrote it for you, we've all walked that road, that's why it's my favourite song When you lay, when you lay it down.... When you sing it out for the worn and the weary kind, though strangers looking back, tonight we're all old friends, singing our favourite songs. All the words come alive when you do that thing with the truth in your voice, when you sing it out for the worn and the weary kind, we're passers by in the street but tonight we're all old friends, singing our favourite songs You and your band played around 2 hours worth of tunes, you said, "thank you, goodnight" and with a wave you walked off stage, myself and the crowd stood there chanting your name for just one more song, your reappeared barefoot holding your beat up J45... Stepped to the mic and said, "this song's for y'all weary kind". It made my night, when you strummed that first chord of my favourite song When you lay, when you lay it down.... When you sing it out for the worn and the weary kind, though strangers looking back, tonight we're all old friends, singing our favourite songs. All the words come alive when you do that thing with the truth in your voice, when you sing it out for the worn and the weary kind, we're passers by in the street but tonight we're all old friends, singing our favourite songs

gypsy heart 05:06
Strange how the winds they come and change your tide The cocaine lines just aint the same and your whisky's always dry Your expiration date approaching and the year's are passing fast Life just gets in the way when you feel it's your time to shine No nothing ever grows on you, and the winter wind never seems to go Lord, it feels like forever when you threw it all away All the questions that you asked were never thrown your way It feels like forever when the days don't go your way And your gypsy heart don't feel the same Blindfolded, tied up juggling many pies on ice Suspended here in time as the world spins on by Living a second handed life, lord knows you try But you played it like a cowboy, gambling all that's right On getting yourself drunk down on easy street, washing those blues away, no nothing ever grows on you, and the winter wind never seems to go Lord, it feels like forever when you threw it all away All the questions that you asked were never thrown your way It feels like forever when the days don't go your way And your gypsy heart don't feel the same

You came through like a hurricane, changing my ways you made me invincible, the sunshine we harboured, it made us unstoppable and nothing could tear us down, none but ourselves could throw it away The late night line chasing playing Bonnie & Clyde, you were under my skin & the thorn in my side, it was never pretend dear nothing could tear us down, none but ourselves could throw it away We got lost in the storm, and couldn't find our way home And the holes that you made when you shot me down Are easy to hide love you know, though the scars in my soul Are painted in gold with your name Though it's not the same, no this letting go, as giving you up
8.
When I first net you, you were moping around, you stumbled out the boozer with a winter frown, springs end was near and the weather was unkind, 'twas the start of the summer that could never be outdone When I lifted my head and seen those eyes, something struck right through me and stole my beer buzz, you said in your soft voice, "are you alright?" 'twas the start of the summer that could never be outdone We blended like to hobos at the same crossroads, we spoke of wanderlust and how we never fitted in, with your bucket in your bag, my guitar across my back, we chased down the summer that could never be outdone From Des Moines to the California coast, we rode those freights, hopping on and off with the stories of old, as distant as the setting sun

Well the times are not a changing, they're just coming 'round, no left or right now, it's just up & down, well the years passing by will make or break your my mind, you can take what's yours and I'll just keep what's mine Coz time's more precious than silver & gold, and money won't save you when you're grey & old, when your eyes grow dim and the light does fade, you'll be caught between a rock 'n' a hard place You should never trust a cowboy when you see him grin, he could hold a losing hand but he'll always win, well that old yellow rose got a thorn on it's branch, reach out to you from the river to the ranch Lord, why you have to give me this cross to bare, I know that I'm a sinner but it just don't compare to all thugs and crazies taking over this, think I'm caught between a rock 'n' a hard place Don't expect no sympathy or no compromise, it's a tooth for a tooth and eye for an eye, well my left eye's itchin', I got salt on my shoe, well I'm going to hell and there's nothing you can do Well the cats they scream and the hound dogs howl, hearing the footsteps on that midnight prowl, well the devil's at my winda I can see his face, think I'm caught between a rock 'n' a hard place No I'm not paranoid, coz I know you're out to get me, just try to roll along but those crazy people just won't let me be

Oh what a life working for the man, in this regime of the 9 to 5 Though I try to get on by just playing Mr Nice, I must confess That I'm just killing time for the day to come around What becomes of one going 'round in circles? Every year is groundhog in my little bubble Though I strive for more, the weekend is what I live for And I must confess, that I'm just killing time for the day to come around Coz I'm a weekend millionaire, living off two monkeys Though keep that under my hat and take it on my chin But to all the girls I meet, my name's Mr Big-time Coz it's easy to pretend, that you're someone else at the weekend When Monday morning comes, I'm no use to anyone I daydream the day away, with fantasies of a different time & place with a sarcastic grin upon my face, I plan my exit strategy to a different way, but for today.. I'm a weekend millionaire, living off two monkeys Though keep that under my hat and take it on my chin But to all the girls I meet, my name's Mr Big-time Coz it's easy to pretend, that you're someone else at the weekend
